Lakeland Regional Library, Killarney is accepting applications for the position of Part-time Library Program Staff – summer contract

This position currently involves a 21 hour work week including some Saturday shifts. This position pays $16.50/hr.

The successful candidate will possess strong communication and customer service skills, be friendly, outgoing, self-motivated and able to work on his/her own as well as in a team atmosphere. The job requires proficiency with computers. The candidate should enjoy working with children and youth and have a desire to deliver literacy programs to these age groups. This is a summer contract position from Tuesday June 24, 2025 to August 29th, 2025.

Library Clerk

The Library Clerk shares in general duties while having duties specific to the position, as listed below. Job descriptions do remain somewhat fluid, and all staff attempt to learn each other’s roles/duties. This is a permanent part time position, currently 21 hours per week, including some Saturdays. Some shift coverage at Cartwright branch (transportation is the responsibility of the candidate).

General duties:

·         Primary focus is patron service. Looking after patrons via the front desk, check ins/outs, book selection, requests, Inter-Library loans, reference questions (in person and on phone)

·         Shelving and organizing books

·         Calls to patrons for books (ordered, overdue, etc.)

·         Working with and helping to coordinate volunteers

·         Assist public on computers

·         Assist eReader patrons with getting started, trouble shooting, and learning new technology

·         Gaining an understanding of issues affecting the larger library community, and well as the ever changing technology and its impact on the library. Participate in learning new technology as it becomes relevant to the workplace.

·         Cleaning of office, staff bathroom, and kitchen (on rotation with other staff)

·         Participate (as availability allows) in library sponsored /hosted events such as New Author Night, Killarney Reads etc.

·         Sharing programming duties with the Assistant Administrator including, I Love to Read Month (February), Summer Story Times, and Canadian Library Month (October), as well as expanding programming in collaboration with the other staff.

 

Job specific duties (though job descriptions remain fluid and at times duties shift or are shared)

·         Selecting and delivering to three senior homes in Killarney on a tri-weekly basis (Bayside, Lakeview, Royal Manor) This includes learning to use Envoy Connect machines and CELA online resources

·         Processing Inter Library Loans semi-weekly including transportation to and from the mail

·         Maintaining our selection of Story Sacks including cataloguing, and repair.

·         Book repair, to learn how to repair library books and repair books in the repair pile regularly.

·         Maintaining special displays in the library.

Other duties as assigned

Requirements

The successful candidate will possess strong communication and customer service skills, be friendly, outgoing, self-motivated and able to work on his/her own as well as in a team atmosphere. The job requires proficiency with computers as well as a working knowledge of social media. This position requires a class 5 drivers licence and personal vehicle.
